Quick Start Guide

On this page you will find all the information you need to very quickly deploy TiLR throughout your organization.

TiLR deployment is extremely simple and straight forward. If you can install an application and get a PC to communicate with your WiFi network, you know how to deploy TiLR - and do it just as quickly.

Configure TiLR

TiLR will be configured in eight very easy steps. Please follow the instructions below:

  1. Install the battery by opening the Back Panel. You will find the marked Battery Cable. Plug in the battery making sure that the red cable matches red, and black matches black. Close the Back Panel.
  2. Plug in a mouse. We support either PS2 or USB.
  3. Turn on Main Power.
  4. Turn on the PC.
  5. Setup TiLR's WiFi Network when Windows loads. For information about your wireless network please contact your Network Admin. TiLR supports 802.11g.
  6. Automatically Start TiLR Command Center. You will see an icon named TCC and a folder called Startup on the desktop. Drag and drop TCC into the startup folder. This loads TCC automatically when TiLR is turned back on.
  7. Run TiLR Command Center. Open the Startup folder on the desktop and double-click TCC.
  8. Remove Mouse.

Congratulations. You have configured TiLR.

Setup Docking Station

When TiLR is not in use, it should be docked to the TiLR Docking Station. The Docking Station ensures that TiLR's battery is always fully charged - as well as maintain and condition the battery to ensure maximum possible durability.

To setup, please follow these instructions and guidelines:

  1. Pick a very flat surface, preferably next to a wall, to place the Docking Station. The back of the Docking Station should be touching the wall. This ensures that when the robot docks, the Docking Station does not move back.
  2. Make sure that there is sufficient open space around the Docking Station so that you could easily maneuver the robot and dock successfully. We suggest an area no smaller than 4' x 4'.
  3. Plug the power cord in the back of the charger unit that is mounted on top of the Docking Station - and plug it into a standard power outlet.
  4. Turn the charger button to the ON position. You will see a red and green LED illuminated.

Note: Try docking TiLR with the Docking Station several times. You may notice that the charging screws on the front bumper of TiLR are not properly touching the metal strips on of the Docking Station. If so, you can adjust the angle of the Docking Station by turning the adjustable "feet" on the bottom.

TiLR Command Center

System Requirements

The TiLR Command Center (TCC) is the software component that enables you to connect to TiLR and commandeer it remotely. Currently we support the following configuration:

  • Windows XP SP2
  • Windows Vista

In addition, you must have a webcam and a broadband connection that is capable of 500kbps upstream/downstream.

Software Requirements

In order for TiLR Command Center to work properly, your PC must have the following software updates installed. Simply click each link and follow the installation/update instructions for each component:

Download TCC

Please download TCC by clicking the link below. Save and execute this installer and follow installation instructions on your screen.

Configure TCC

All settings pertaining to configuring TiLR are placed in a text file called "config.tilr" which can be found in the TiLR folder on your PC. To configure and customize your TCC, simply open this file in a text editor such as Notepad, make your changes, and save the file.

A simpler user interface will be included in the next version of TCC. We appreciate your patience.

There are a number of configurable options in the TiLR Command Center application and you can find a complete list is in the User Manual. Below are a few settings to quickly get you started:

  • AccountID - this ID number was emailed to you. Please inser it on this line.
  • VideoConfig - this setting gives you the option to set framerate vs. frame quality. The higher framerates you want, the lower the video quality - and vice versa. That is the tradeoff. The range is from 0 to 40, with 0 being highest framerate. Default is 4.
  • ForceTCP - if you are connecting to TiLR from a network that does not permit opening of UDP port, you may set this settings to 1 and all video and audio communications will be routed via UDP. Default is 0.
  • VideoRecordPath - by default, all Motion JPEG video files are saved in a folder called "capture" under the application folder. You can set your own custom folder by placing it here. Default is "/capture".
  • AudioConfig - this setting allows you to turn on the Automatic Echo Cancelation on your Windows PC. This is a great feature when you're video conferencing. However, some sound cards on PCs cannot handle this feature and adversely affect the audio. You may turn on this feature by placing a 1 on this line. Default is 0.
